OK. We set our intention. We visualized that intention. If this isn’t ringing a bell go back to the first 2 blog posts in January: Action vs Outcome: Who do you want to be and 5 Steps to Successful Visualization. We know what we want, we’ve used our imagination to see ourselves having already accomplished the goal. So, now what?
Now, we bring the MAGIC. Manifestation. I mean we can make this all hippy woo woo with essential oils, crystals, oracle cards, you name it - I’m there for it! Orrrrrrr, this can really just be about your self-care. Getting what you most desire. And most importantly, showing up as your best self.
All of the thought leaders are talking about it - Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Gabrielle Bernstein. Even Oprah! Oprah says "Having a vision creates a path for the future. It focuses you and allows for clarity moving forward". By now I’m sure that you have heard of the Law of Attraction, or even Karma. What you put out to the universe is what you receive in return. Now, that sounds hippy woo woo.But think about it. If you are happy and joyful, people around you will start to mirror you. If you feel down or sad or angry, you act that way. Then those around you start to act that way. Or….they avoid you because they don’t want to spend time in that energy. Either way - you are putting out energy and it is attracting that same energy back to you. You’ve heard me say it - Your vibe attracts your tribe. Same goes for your thoughts and desires.
What is it?
Manifesting is simply the practice of thinking positive or aspirational thoughts with the goal of making them real. It is about turning your dreams into reality but it isn’t without some work. It is more than willpower and positive thinking. It doesn’t magically happen overnight. It is about your thoughts, actions, beliefs, and emotions. You do have to take proactive steps towards your desire.
My experience
I used to have a hang up. I didn’t feel like I was enough. I have had several ‘careers’ but felt like an imposter in all of them. I had an associate degree and basically floundered my way through that. I decided that if I got a bachelors degree I would feel more confident. That would not be easy. I had 3 boys at home, an awesome husband (who also worked a lot and had little control of his schedule), a house, and a full-time job. Didn’t matter. I wanted it. So, I basically manifested it. I started thinking about how it would feel to complete the degree. What jobs I could have once I was I got the degree. How I AM smart enough to do this. How I can make time to do this. I took action. I made a plan with my husband to figure out where the time is going to come from, what can come off of my plate so I can focus. I would do homework sitting at soccer practice, at the dentist office, I got up an hour early every morning. I was committed to the action. And when I was struggling I used affirmations, out loud, usually in the car by myself (if you drive by me talking to myself, don’t judge, keep driving, I’m doing my thing!). I visualized it, I took action, I affirmed it. And you know what. I managed a bachelor degree, masters degree, and doctorate in 10 years.
If you think that you are not enough or can’t do something. I call BS. Go get it.
How do you do it?
Start by being clear. We did this by setting our intentions in the first blog post. Revisit that intention. Be clear and concise. Consider the details.
Ask for what you want. Write it down, meditate with it, speak it out loud, or even create a vision board. Say exactly what you want. Be unapologetic.
Start working towards it. Decide what actions would result in bringing this intention to life and then build them into your routine. Practice it so to speak.
Be mindful and thankful. I believe this to be the biggest game changer. Be aware of and thankful for all of the things in your life, not just this intention/outcome.
Release limiting beliefs and negative self talk. When you notice either, reframe the thought. Turn it around to a positive thought or statement to align with your intentions.
Here are my 2 cents. Maybe manifestation is real. Maybe it isn’t. Maybe there is science that proves changing your thoughts then changes your brainwaves which then changes your outlook changing the outcome. Or maybe not. Either way, is there any harm in thinking positively and putting those thoughts to use to create a better outcome?
